Miss Rebecca Ayodele Chaytor

school gates

In affectionate memory of Miss Rebecca Ayodele Chaytor, a daughter of Harford, who in 1939 was the first Harfordian to receive a Teacher’s Certificate from Wilberforce Teachers Training College, Freetown, Sierra Leone.   Later she settled in Great Britain, where for many years she practised as a Nursing Sister in Liverpool. Sadly she passed away on 10th March 2007.

Barclays Bank Communicated with the London Branch of the Harford Ex-Pupils Association that the late Rebecca Chaytor named Harford School for Girls of Moyamba as the sole residuary beneficiary and bequeathed her savings to the School.  Ms Chaytor in her life time believed in the need to give girls good education.  This bequest to her Alma Mater – “a pioneer of the education of the Sierra Leone female in the provinces”  – is a strong testimony to her belief, thus at her end she has given female education in Sierra Leone a boost.  What a shinning example for many more Harfordians to follow!!

Mrs Musu Melinda Trye

(Nee Sissy Musu Massaquoi) realised her Sunrise year on 6th October 1920 and her Sunset year on 1st January 2010.  Sissy Musu entered, completed her schooling and graduated at the Harford Secondary Girls School, Moyamba.  Straightaway she began her Nursing career at the local hospital, Moyamba, where she met and married her husband, Mr Sam Trye. They were blessed with four children.

After her husband’s death, she transferred to the Yengema Hospital where she continued for years working meticulously and conscientiously to qualify as a Staff Nurse.  Next she went to work at the Bo hospital and then the Freetown hospital after which she was invited to come to United Kingdom by her daughter, Mamawo Melinda Trye. In London she joined our Association, The Harford Ex-Pupils, and became a loyal and devoted member until her passing away.  We miss her and pray that she rests in Perfect Peace.
